an argument could be made for Ashes having post-metal elements, but it would be a bit of a stretch. it's more doom than post-metal. The Mantle is influenced by post-rock but post-rock and post-metal are very different things.
as for prog, there's definitely progressive elements to their song structures, but their melodies and harmonies have always been pretty basic. the "progressive" label can be applied loosely but I would hardly call Agalloch a progressive metal band.

yes exactly ocean. except that by no means can they be labeled as "prog"

well I mean people label Tool as prog even though they're not prog in the conventional sense. the same could be applied here. I wouldn't personally call Agalloch prog but the argument could be made

well tool's music relies a lot on showoff-like technicality, anti-pop attitude and complex songwriting which are very typical to prog. the same can't be said about agalloch

To say that Agalloch have no progressive or post-rock/metal in their sound is a pretty ridiculous statement. Just because the playing isn't overtly technical doesn't mean it isn't progressive. By that logic, dark side of the moon isn't progressive rock. There are many ways to define a band that way, and Agalloch certainly embody those characteristics in their sound (mainly what Ocean was describing in his long post and about Ashes)
Besides, every bandpage for Agalloch has post-rock/metal and/or progressive under genre, including the ones run by the band itself, so there you go.

Yeah songs like falling snow and fire above, ice below have pretty obvious post-metal sections.

ashes has a strong doom metal influence but i don't necessarily hear any post-metal in it. they sure have a lot of post-rock elements though, i never denied that
