Yeah, I have to admit it has a compilation feel. It also didn't help that he released the album the same time as the film with the same name.

I don't think people see this as a 'proper' studio album even though it technically is.

Either way, some Dre is better than no Dre. haha Though I would love a full-length album from him, this does just fine.

The production credits say a lot to me. The one thing that kept his previous records feeling unified was that he produced them all. Not so here....

The Chronic: All songs produced by Dr. Dre

Exec.: Suge Knight

2001: All songs produced by Dr. Dre (also exec.) and Mel-Man, except "The Message" produced by Lord Finesse.

Compton: Dr. Dre (also exec.), Best Kept Secret, Bink, BMB SpaceKid, Cardiak, Choc, Curt Chambers, Cold 187um, DJ Dahi, Dem Jointz, Dontae Winslow, D.R.U.G.S Beats, Focus..., Free School, DJ Khalil, DJ Silk, DJ Premier, Theron Feemster, Trevor Lawrence Jr.

No songs produced soley by Dre and nearly half the album isn't produced by him at all...

Yah and some of the songs don't even have Dre for writing credit.

The treble is a bit too high in the mix on this one. Some points of the record are ear piercing when played at louder volumes.

I still jam this from time to time. Has some stuff I really like and some stuff that's whatever. There's nothing on it that I think is terrible.

It's no 2001, but it's still better than a lot of the rap out there these days.

I actually listened to 2001 the other day and it is way overrated there are some dope, classic tracks on there, but most of the album is mediocre and borderline bad- not to mention, Eminem's shtick did not age well. Don't believe me? Go listen to it front to back.

The Chronic on the other hand.....shit holds up.

No way. I didn't realize how overrated it was until I listened to the whole thing for the first time in years. It may be heralded as a classic and that's certainly how I remembered it, but it really isn't all that great. Solid 3.5, imo.
