Hmm idk, this is great but all three have churned out their share of sentimentalist trash with cringe lyrics, plus Corgan is the most suspect vocalist of the pack

No it doesnt, Three Cheers is prob the closest to it because that one still has some Post-Hardcore in it but the debut is straight Ink and Dagger worship. Much more raw and has more varied guitarwork, screams are in it too.

I never minded Corgan's vocals because they're super unique

I'll take nasal whining over cry baby whining any day

Not really, like his voice is very nasal, but he doesn't have that crybaby vocal thing a lot of pop punk/emo-pop artists have

Idk, he has a concerted badboi (XYU) and a constipated whimsical (Tonight Tonight) style that are arguably worse. Neither annoy me much here, so perhaps this'd make more sense in the MC thread

Corgan in general is try-hard hot air, but this album's tone and context are so neurotic and singularly focused that it isn't an issue

Pretty sure XYU's cool/cringe split is directly dependent on your age when you first hear it - no shade on that, but would sortof prove my point ;]

I mean the Mary had a little lamb part of the lyrics is obviously dumb, but in a good way

Sometimes stupid as fuck lyrics ae very memorable and I'm okay with that

Smashing Pumpkins 90s stuff made them my favorite band when I was 16

Always hated their 2000s-modern stuff though

Agreed Corgan is a pretty bad vocalist but this album specifically jams hard enough to where it's ignorable

Actually he's decent enough on this and Gish, from what I've heard he got gradually worse from MCatIS onward

smh his vocals are great here; so much emotion in the climaxes of cherub rock, hummer etc.

butch vig knew how to mix his vocals perfectly, he was ruined by the production (probably dictated by his ego) on subsequent releases

Like good ol' Chino our Billy has a pleasingly feminine lilt for a 'rock singer'

He's never convincing when he tries to go macho and/or 'scary'
