I prefer Riverside's and Rishloo's covers, indeed.

I was lukewarm on this initially, but it's been growing on me quite a bit.

Anybody has tried to fill the pieces of the concept? It's pretty blatant the mother dies giving birth to the
daughter, but what the hell happens next? I can't say I liked the lyrics, to be honest.
Musically.. Eh, it's really great that they could make a 120 min record without being boring or worse and
there are many high peaks. I like the mellow mood of the second disc, but it doesn't leave me 'much'. First
disc, Selfsame is probably the best track on there, although the crazy ass blast beat part is... excessive,
imho. They could have kept the insanity down a notch there

It's raining outside and I'm listening to Learned. I have to study for a serious exam, but, meh, what can one do? Life's cool.

I like the bit of this I've heard but it can't really keep my attention
|

i like this but there's no way it's gonna hold my attention for 2 hrs
question to those perusing: i'm in the camp that bands with long form songs should make shorter albums to highlight the intricacies of the tonal and melodic crescendos/shifts. agree/disagree?

@mongi, glad you're enjoying it!
@lunaticsoul, I haven't tried to piece it together yet since I've been waiting for a hard copy in the mail, and was hoping to sit down with the lyric sheet. It's taking a long time to arrive though, will let you know if I find a thorough cohesive story

Yea I really enjoyed it. My fav songs are Promise part 2 and Eyes For The Change. It kinda drag in the second disc in general and Learned also drags for the obvious reason but it's a really solid album. They're vocalist sounds like Andrew from Rishloo and my extension Maynard.

I'd say the ballads are more consistent than the harsh ones. I expected more solos and time changes, you know, more wanking, but in a good way. And the Haken comparison for the voice is apparent.

Haken>>>>>>>
By like a mile, but I like these guys from what I heard. The length is so unnecessary but when they get it right on heard, they get it REALLY right.

Maybe. Of course Haken would win the competition, as would Rishloo. The guy's voice is more than decent, but is not that distinguishable.

Oh if we're talking vocals them Rishloo and this band would win but in general Haken is definitely superior

This has some parts that I really enjoy...but they might be too spread out. And I really dont like this guys snare, but I realize that just me being picky.
I'm gonna have to give this one a few listens before I make my final verdict.
Also, Haken most definitely does kick hard balls compared to this.

Yeah, this is far from being a prog metal masterpiece, while it could be said the opposite to both Rishloo's
and Haken's last lps. The more I listen the more I get the feeling everyone just got way too excited on this

Yes, this is nothing exremely overwhelming, it's just great.Disc 1 is 3.5, disc 2 is 4. Risloo's two latest are both 4.5, while Haken's latest destroys this easily.

So it looks like they're breaking up. It's a real bummer, I really liked this album and I was looking forward to seeing what these guys would do next.

I really liked this album. Is Haken better? Probably, in some regards. Their cheesy vox are an acquired taste though
