"But a lot of old-school hip hop was also very often about 'bitches' and money lol, and old-school

purists act like this isn't the case. And I mean it's not like rapping about those subjects is a

problem in itself "

you apparently didn't understand me, its not having a problem with the subjects, its having a problem

with how those are virtually the ONLY topics modern rappers rap about. Old school rapped about a lot

more than just bitches and money, new school basically raps about bitches and money and only

innovates the sound.

"yeah well i don't think seniority works in this case because they grew up with Diddy instead of Lil

Jon or Soulja Boy, really not much of a difference imo. " You aren't getting the point. No one is

saying "there was never a shitty rapper in the golden era" we are just saying the % of run-of-the-

mill rappers was far less in the 90s than today. there was Nas, 2pac, KRS, Big Daddy Kane, Slick

Rick, Kool G Rap, Guru, Rakim, Whodini, Wu-Tang, etc... there were tons of mainstream rappers that

had really diverse, original and profound subject matter, today there is essentially no one.

you know that's patently false. you're speaking about thousands upon thousands of modern-day hip hop artists. the scope even a few cover in terms of lyrics and music is amazing. i can name you plenty of modern day rappers who are politically conscious and witty as hell, not that i think that's integral to enjoying the music

i'm talking modern mainstream rappers.

i'd like to hear that.

anyway the point wasn't that there are 0 witty mainstream rappers, only relatively few compared to

the 90s

Are you sure, though? You can argue with LambsBread better than most other of the Hip-Hop Folk on here.

I'm not even gonna listen to all those, let alone make my own list of tracks by modern mainstream rappers. Very good effort though and I will peep a few *^^*
