I think anyone who uses the word "McConaughater" should probably do the same tbh

McConaughey has had some respectable roles in recent years, but let's not pretend like he's always been a top tier actor.

Couldn't get into the movie, and I'm utterly shocked by the acclaim it's received. Which is odd, because I like every Nolan films I've seen (Insomnia is on my queue). I liked the characters and the score, I'll admit, is impressive. Everything else just failed to leave an impression.
Wasn't impressed by the visuals or cinematography, the themes and messages felt shoehorned in, the story was disjointed, pacing inconsistent and it all felt too implicit for its own good. I'd rather watch an episode of Cosmos or Through the Wormhole.
But that's all just one fellow's opinion. :/

It's why there's been so much attention on him lately. Up until a few years ago, he was the perpetually shirtless, kinda-goofy-but-likable rom-com guy. Now he's actually showing some chops

Have the people shitting on McConaughey seen True Detective?
I'm not his biggest fan in the world -and maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen overwhelming hype for his role in Interstellar- but I feel like it's unfair to judge him without seeing it.

Intersteller was a summer blockbuster released in November, it really wasn't anything more than just a fun
experience.
Off the top of my head, movies like Whiplash, Boyhood, Snowpiercer, Nightcrawler, Grand Budapest Hotel, A
Most Wanted Man, Under the Skin are all, imo, better movies than Intersteller that have been released this
year. Intersteller just had more pizzazz. Whiplash and Boyhood are definitely the two best movies of the
year so far.

How was Nightcrawler? Looked sketchy as shit in a good way.

movie was so wtf
that one ocean planet was fucking great tho, the "mountains" had me fooled, i had the exact same ominous feeling when anne hathaway stepped into the shallow ocean, and had the realization of what was happening at the same exact time.
after that the whole thing was sort of meh though. the matt damon part was super predictable, the part on earth was never particularly interesting, and i never found the show's emotional core to as compelling as it seemed to be. the father/ daughter parts were so mechanical and don't get me started on the romance of mcconaughey/ hathaway (yawn)
not a bad movie by any means but it wasn't good enough to justify its runtime IMO

"the romance of mcconaughey/ hathaway (yawn)"
There wasn't one. That was one of the best things about the movie - it wasn't forced in at all.
What movie did you watch?
|
| |
maybe i misinterpreted the ending or whatever of the daughter being like "go find anne hathaway"
not really sure tbh, it's not even that it had a lot of screentime or anything but if my understanding is right, then the central conceit of the movie involves the power of "love", not just father-daughter which is heavily focused on but also apparently on the two leads (correct me if i'm wrong). and so the ending just fell flat since that didn't resonate at all
|
| |
It was suggested they had a romantic interest in each other but never explicitly stated which worked in it's favour
|
| |
ok that's what i thought
then i just don't buy the overly-sappy message. i don't think any of the relationships as presented were powerful enough to warrant the message, but i've never been a fan of nolan's writing of interpersonal relationships so maybe it's just me
|
| |
Eh I don't mind a cheesy love conquers all message as long as it's done well which I thought it was here

agreed people r all cynix

Black-hearted bastards agreed

I was always sassy it's just been amplified by your insistence on not liking things which I like
