There's definitely some story behind the elven king and reasons of kidnap and all that but I'll be buggered if I can be arsed to look it up.
Here's one for you, one of the first films I saw at the cinema was 'Rock Lords' also showing was Labyrinth and advertised on the posters outside was Aliens.
Fucking everything pre 2000 was better dude I'm telling ya!!!

"Trying to get your name on wikipedia"
sung to the tune of Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World
as it is, i am one of the .5% of the so-called "digital world" who was not actually presented with
this u2 album, on account of i don't really use itunes anymore
and i am actually a pretty fucking big u2 fan
o the irowknee!!

Irony would be you didn't use I tunes on the account of how much you hate U2 only to be presented with the new album as a 'gift' in an effort to attract you back.
What you've experienced is bad luck dude.

sry but this sucks real hard
|
| |
uh, i'm pretty sure it's ironic that there are a legion of people out there "enraged" because they
were presented with an unwanted u2 album while i'm here, a fan who wouldn't have minded that, just
downloading it voluntarily as i would any other album
thanks for the attempted english lesson though, i think i got it from here "dude!"

I do feel like everyone's been a bit too harsh on Pop, though. Some really good songs on that one.
I am not THAT fond of "Miami", but the whole record is solid from top to bottom. It is in my top 3 U2 albums. I just love their 90s output.

Even Zooropa? (which would have been a lost cause for me if not for the title track and "Stay")

Even Zooropa? (which would have been a lost cause for me if not for the title track and "Stay")
Yes. I feel it is the weakest record of that time period (including the Passengers project), but it is still a very interesting work. Achtung Baby and Pop are just more enjoyable and cohesive albums for me. But "Lemon" is among my all time U2 favorite tracks, along with "Stay".

Pop had some good songs but too many are simply undercooked. "side two" (when bands still thought
of that) is stale. Playboy Mansion, Miami, Please, If You Wear That Velvet Dress, Wake Up Dead
Man...these songs could not sustain the album imo. up until then the album had been solid. Gone is
one of my favorite U2 things ever, as is Do You Feel Love. but 1/2 an album does not a whole make.
it's not a terrible album but it was supposed to be better and the way they announced and promoted
it dictated those expectations. Zooropa is better imo and it was recorded during a tour break!

Album is growing on me.

It takes more listens because there aren't as many catchy hooks as usual. But it's experimental in a way that's natural for U2 to grow - not just following trends. The producers give the album an edgy and somewhat dreamy feel while not losing their knack for great pop/rock. The lyrics, while too general sometimes, also make you feel nostalgic.
