3 songs in, already way better than Heritage. less chaotic for one thing

Song could've ended after the nylon guitar part and finished at 6:00. Feel the segment after could be used as a different song entirely. Maybe that's what they were going for to be edgy idk

Everyone hated Elysian when this leaked calling it the worst on this, but it's aged well in comparison to everything else

In the sense that it's less streamlined and more interesting perhaps.

This album is just as good as good as Heritage. The songwriting is a bit more straightforward in parts, but the great vocal melodies and musicianship pick up the slack. I would go as far as to say that this album contains the best drumming for the band to date (Sorry, Lopez).

If I can find the time, I'd like to.

You can hear a lot of influences on this record that weren't really touched on in Heritage that I like (early '80s Deep Purple, Steve Hackett, Allman Bros., etc.), while still adding back in bits of their sound from Ghost Reveries and Watershed.

Yeah drumming is tight, still prefer López though as he's inspired me loads. Axe still slays

Axe is better suited to this style

Much preferred Axe's performance on Heritage to his performance on here (it helps that the drum sound is so much better on Heritage too).

Axe's drumming on Heritage is easily my favourite drumming on any Opeth album. Love his drumming on here too but it's a little bit disappointing compared to how amazing it was on Heritage.
