Bands like Interpol are damned if they do, damned if they don't in a sense. Anything that deviates from TOTBL is seen as inferior, while they would be nailed too if they released TOTBL 2 or 3. What you think of their entire discography and the context you place on El Pintor is up to you. But if you expect any band to change your life every time they release something, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Yeah, The National are pretty much the critics' darlings. I gave them a pass on Trouble Will Find me, but if their next release is similar, I will be displeased.

i honestly can't stand the chorus of my blue supreme, but the verses are so good.
this album is strange: at times i feel like it's one of their best efforts, and other times i think it has its fair share of filler. i guess i just need to be in the right headspace for it. i can find things to love about almost every song but i don't feel compelled to keep coming back for more. my desire is still my favourite
