this was kind of an exhausting listen. some moments i really loved and some felt really esoteric and just plain tired me out. i definitely need to listen to this more.
|
| |
this is the most emotionally drained i've been in a long time, playing this at full volume

Which is the better edition 1 or edition 2? I know there are only slight differences and am gonna listen to both but just want to start with one of them for now.
I'm starting to dissect Coltrane's insane discography and probably will start at the beginning, but I've heard a lot about this album and the different editions.

hmm.. edition 2 is longer and probably "better" in some ways but edition 1 strikes me as more interesting... idk man. i read somewhere that coltrane himself preferred 2
|
| |
Yeah I read that too... there's a drum solo in edition 1 that isn't in edition 2, a John Tchicai solo being longer in edition 1, and other solos being played in different orders.
Maybe I'll do edition 2 first and then edition 1 thinking of it as more of a messy, alternate version or something.
|
| |
i prefer 2nd edition (1st take), it seems a bit more subtle/spontaneous
