Nah there's def some sludge in this band. Maybe moreso in the earlier stuff but yeah. [2]
This new one is definitely not sludgy, and it was never their strongest trait. Not really a big deal though, it's not like Grande being tagged bm or something, just a bit of artist title confirmation bias ;)

Locktender was a clean 4 to me, for now. I've fived Hooded menace and listen to it every week m/...still can't get into that Portal thing, but it looks like it's my bad. 4.5'd Slugdge. Gonna check Usurpress, what should i expect?
There's cool things this year though - Atlas Moth and Kaoteon top 10 candidates for me.

lol old classics are important but sometimes its just difficult to hear all Melvins albums (f.e.)...as Moloko says "The Time Is Now"...no... for sure that would be one of my flaws regarding metal...i do it a little randomly, when some old time band does something i like i go to their past and related bands.

Slugdge/Rolo Tomassi are the only new releases I've heard this year & maybe only 7 or so releases from the whole of last year.
A decent (I think) justification for this is if you bide your time then the truly well regarded stuff rises to the top eventually, if I wanted to delve deeply into 2017 I've now got all these end of year lists/averages to peruse, I can just cherry pick what I like the sound of.
Ideally I'd like to catch up on all the classics/old 'cult' gems AND listen to new stuff, but anything approaching a sufficient amount of time consistently alludes me.
