hence it's not awful, it's just lackluster and unimpressive

Now I've given it a proper listen I see where the responses are coming from. A lot of times on this record it seems as if the lyrics though not bad in a poetic sense do not fit the music and come across as rather awkward and grating. This is definitely their weakest output so far to my mind. I still very much enjoy it because I love this band but was expecting a 5 and obviously didn't get that here.

Essentially you're saying...I never liked this band and I still don't like them and my summary is a very whiny statement about why they're well-liked. As phony as you see this record, I see this review as an incredibly phony attempt at hiding a rant. "It's like the entire record is a parody of emo as whole, which is embarrassing considering how seriously it takes itself." And it's embarrassing how seriously you take emo if bands that are quite similar, as you said, become suddenly contrived because you had a "feeling" they were. I'm not even saying this album is a masterpiece. I've listened to it, and I think it's pretty good but I'm reserving judgment for more than a day. I just hope you realize how pathetic your review comes across. You admit to previously disliking a band and release a review merely a day after or the day of its release with the same reiterations throughout the whole text? I did get a good laugh out of the ridiculous nature of it all though, so I suppose I can thank you for that.

he's right about one thing: you should give music time to unfold itself over several weeks before you write a review. I know that the reviewer has prob heard this release a lot of times, but it's just not the same as the test of time, even if it's only a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, with this whole phoniness business, you do come across as a sad parody of Holden Caulfield, stepsascending

I disagree with that statement. If you delve long enough into a genre you can accurately apply the rating after a couple of listens for say 90% of the albums within that genre.
My personal experience anyway.

I mean Eli's an experienced reviewer and music listener. I'm sure he takes the rating process seriously enough to not give his judgment when he's not fully absorbed the album.

I am really hoping this is a grower but it just feels really shallow at the moment love the first two and last three songs though.

What a fall from grace after their first album. Look at that difference in rating.
