Thanks for the input guys I might have to just get two albums to listen to depending on the mood. I listened to some of serenades and it could definitely fill my doom craving when it comes around.

Reading around it seems A Natural Disaster is probably a good a place to start as any for their atmospheric stuff. I'll check it out.

I'm also a newbie to Anathema. Listened to this album a couple times already today, really digging the

Radiohead vibe on some of these tracks.

@Gyromania

Previous two Anathema albums didn't do much for me. As for Judgement (and the two albums that followed/preceded it), it is valuable to me for reasons other than music as well.

Distant Satellites brought back the memories, so that's why I'm fond of it.

take shelter is so under-appreciated, might be one of the best tracks here, can't stop listening to it on loop

Judgement is the album that got me listening to these guys again. I stopped after the Pentecost III album (the last one to feature Darren White on vocals) because Silent Enigma and Eternity were so bland and boring.

Saw these guys at an Acoustic show the other night in Gloucester Cathedral (perfect atmosphere), the t/t from this worked perfectly, maybe even better acoustic, and 'Anathema' as an encore, ooooft

here's some similar artists to Anathema you could list

Porcupine Tree
Coldplay
eating soggy pieces of plain bread
flu
pressing yourself very slowly against a wall for the entire rest of your life

@Cap Their first 2 albums are very refreshing, but then they became just another brick in the wall

Their very first 2? Couldn't disagree more. When they went the more radiohead/Floyd sound, they kept their initial melancholy sound but with prog influences, they were actually ahead of their time since so much recent prog is depressing and moody
