My buddy played this when I was over at his place yesterday. Caught me off guard a little; really solid. The opening track just hooks you from the get-go.

Good review, though I can't say I like the album. Maybe I just don't get it, but I found it to be a little bit too boring for my tastes. Some of the songs seem to be a little bit too long for their own good.
I respect your opinion though, it's just that this album is not for me.

Ok, I'm ready to say it. Album of the year so far. An Ocean In Between the Waves is an instant classic. I didn't think the Granduciel/Vile duo would ever put out an album as good as Wakin on a Pretty Daze, either together again or separately, but this may be it.

I wouldn't say this is top heavy as many claim. Eyes to the Wind and In Reverse are the top 2 for me, then either red eyes or burning. I'd say its consistently great.

It's pretty sweet how for all of the messed up emotional trauma that went into making this it still sounds triumphant in a way, as if he's overcome it. Beautiful stuff.
