Those type of songs usually suck me in as well, but that one didn't for whatever reason. Not that it's awful or anything.

Not surprised. Probably in the top 3 songs on the album.

Can't say I agree that it's in the best 3 tracks, but am not totally surprised that it has been deemed single-worthy.

While this isn't as epic as Prisoner, it's still good enough to satisfy what I was hoping from it.
The use of the higher notes Haley used on the album was actually quite refreshing on my part. After having EP's & Prisoner
using quite low levels of her range for a darker atmosphere (which I believe this album does lack) it's quite nice to see her
using her higher register. Not since the first EP has it fully embodied their sound & is quite nice throwback.
I would've liked Nik's drums to be more pronounced & intense like they were on past material but as this is a more
polished, uniform & accessible effort, it is understandable. I also am a bit irritated that Psychotherapy didn't close the
album out, it's intense & emotional; & would've been the great impact blow the album was lacking from the start.
Nonetheless, it's still got me excited for what these guys have to offer in the future. While it doesn't match up to their past
efforts, it hasn't left me disappointed in many ways. Which is a massive plus. A time of experimentation & sonic
reinvention is necessary from time to time, too bad it might've taken the wind out of their sails for some people.
FAV TRACKS: Psychotherapy, Look Of Love, Beat To Beat, The End, Angels Of Fire

A pretty good sound-off of sorts there CC. You make some valid points too. I actually really liked their debut EP (more than others did anyway), but it was verging on a different style of music. I guess what they have attempted to do here is merge the darker & lighter styles. It works in some places & doesn't in others. Either way, let's hope that it's a tarnsition album of sorts, and still a pretty good one at that.
I see Ms. Mary has gone off on a few critics who didn't have nice things to say about this album.

'I see Ms. Mary has gone off on a few critics who didn't have nice things to say about this album. '
That's never a good idea. Bit of a newbie response to critique for such a seasoned band

Agreed. Like I state at the start of the review, I think the band as a whole would be better off well out of the limelight. Not the way it works to sell records unfortunately.

Haha, no... But isn't it ironic that you said that because I was thinking the other day of revisiting my "potential 5s" list from a year or so back to actually rate those near-classics.
