Yeah I saw the band members talking about the lyrical themes for this album and... well I wasn't too psyched
But usually I can ignore them so
None of the songs released so far have had heavy parts like Yet did, I'm hoping they haven't got rid of them entirely!

I just remember it being more how Thrice did their religious songs. Dustin sang about Jesus, but never really directly referenced him, so it was on a more subtle level. It was definitely more obvious on Yet than Thrice ever did, but this album seems a lot less more direct about what he is singing about.
I was kind of thinking the same thing, Rowan, but Royal brings the heavy pretty decent.

Yeah Dustin did it in an abstract way in Thrice where it was still open for the listener to interpret in different ways, as opposed to on his solo album this year. I see the same thing in bands like Underoath, and I like that they can reference their faith without being obscenely obvious.
So, good so far?

Exactly. They are more the 'faith based' bands instead of being outright a 'Christian band.' With these lyrics, this honestly almost feels like a contemporary Christian album, except with way better music. I don't think it's enough to really detract from the album as a whole, but I just remember it taking a few times to really start hearing his religious references on Yet, whereas here, I am getting a lot of them at first listen.
Yeah, just hit past the halfway point and not too shabby. I like Yet better so far, but the album took a bit to really hit me, so it may be the same here.

Okay guess I'll jam it today. Are there any more songs with the awesome post-rock thing that Zion had going on?

I think Confession might vibe a little like Zion does.

Cool
Did you hear Broken Voice yet?

Nah, not yet. Maybe after this. I wanted to check that out since you spoke so highly about it.

It really is fantastic, especially Alone, they pack so much emotion in

Actually, the last track, Arrive, definitely feels along the post rocky type. it's one of those bitchin 8 minute tracks.
Cool, The last track on this is almost done. I will just load it up next.

BITCHIN EIGHT MINUTE TRACKS ARE MY FAVOURITE! OH MY EPIC, YOU KNOW ME TOO WELL

That feels slightly sarcastic, but I think you will like it.

Haha yeah idk why, I do really love them 8-minute epics. We'll see how I go!

Me too! My Epic really does know us all to well.
You ever listened to O'Brother? You would probably like them if you dig post rock-ish stuff with vocals. I think O'Brother and this band are a bit similar, minus the religious lyrics and O'Brother is probably heavier.

Nope never listened to them, another one to put on the list I suppose!

That's a Xing approved band, btw! They also get compared to Thrice on some of their earlier works, so I think you would dig. I've only listened to the LPs, but I have heard people say good things about their Death of the Day EP as well.

| |
Idk Xing and I don't seem to agree often but I'll try. Do you mean that early O'Brother gets compared to Thrice, or O'Brother gets compared to early Thrice?

Agreed the hardest on Alone, btw. This song is amazing.

Oh yeaaaaah
Lazarus is incredible too

Earlier O'Brother (Garden Window and Death of the Day) get compared to Vheissu (I think, it's definitely not comparable to Artist and Illusion, anyway) Thrice. Their new album went in a bit of a different direction.
Sweet. Looking forward to it. Might have to pick this up, too. It's impressive how they still get their sound out on this even with the lighter instrumentation.
