Looks like Devonte knew it leaked, because now it's officially released

Sick. Checking it.

Not loving the feminist slam poetry intro.

Okay, but aside from a few "flow breaking" spoken word intermissions I didn't dig, new album is super sick.

At Hand Up right now and I'm liking it more than this so far, but yeah the spoken word bits could've been done without.

Has this spoken word intermission thing worked in any album ever? (Not talking about albums that focus on that style, but "regular" albums who mix it in)

Getting hard Prince vibes from this new thing tho. Love it aside from the spoken word.

I'm listening to the new album now - first "song" with the slam poetry was incredibly annoying, I guess I'll just have to skip over that if there's a lot of it on the album. Expecting that there will still be plenty to love

Will have to check the new album but the spoken word stuff, despite being pretty expected, sounds pretty annoying. As stated that stuff never really comes off well.

Sorry but the "feminist slam poetry intro" (wtf) about Missy elliot being badass is awesome

All the spoken word shit on the album works fine we just live in an Era of embittered twats who reject anything mildly empowering to any minority as "third wave bullshit"

Noted, gonna be open minded about it, but regardless of the content I tend to agree that spoken word stuff usually doesn't work so well in an album. Happy to be proven wrong.

@pots, it's not something I find enjoyable to listen to (especially not repeatedly, as I generally would listen to songs multiple times). There's nothing inherently wrong with the spoken word itself, and its subject matter is important, but I don't find it interesting musically

I didn't really mind the poem by itself; the person delivering seemed to be really passionate with what she was saying, and I can appreciate the message she was conveying. The only issue I have with it is that this message of female empowerment doesn't seem to pop up in the record except for this moment (and even if these themes appear again, they aren't prevalent enough to be a major part of the listening experience), making for a misleading introduction.

fair, i accept.

also missy elliot rules

also blood orange has always been all about individuality so i dont think it was supposed to be thematic at all. i didnt find it misleading personally.
