i still like this but i can tell it's not going to have the lasting value of some of '13's best. i'm actually surprised that people are so high on it tbh. does anyone else feel like it's all a little homogeneous after a while? beautiful stuff, no doubt, but a little samey at times

my 5 is temporary, as is my rating in general. consider it a 5 for friendzone more than for this album.

i feel like you have to go into this knowing it's gonna be a bit samey. I mean if they mix it up too much it probably goes all over the map

i think there is a lot of variation anyway, at least in terms of mood.

yah but other instrumental hip-hop/electronica stuff is plenty varied (clams casino, blue sky black death)

clams casino is nowhere near this in terms of quality of standalone instrumental work imo. as producers for work with rappers they are both phenomenal but i think this blows away clammy's stuff on its own.

was just about to say the same thing
I like clams's stuff when it's coupled with rappers, but this is on a whole 'nother level relative to Rainforest, for instance; both in terms of quality and variation/mood/purpose

fair enough, i might just prefer the atmosphere of clams casino. still though, an album like late night cinema (bsbd) is chock-full of really cool moments and every song is its own thing, whereas this smears everything into one big blob. a pretty blob, but a blob nonetheless

i understand what you're saying. i don't know blue sky black death well enough to compare so i won't. this album is like dance music for my brain.
