Following a trilogy of acclaimed 2011 mixtapes, hyped young Toronto R&B singer Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) delivers his major label debut proper 'Kiss Land'. Nowhere near as raw or moody as his mixtapes, this is a slickly produced affair that is kept from being classified as mainstream due to the lyrics; which are full of self-loathing & are arguably misogynist. While the glossiness of the album occsionally clashes with its atmosphere, the 23 year old Tesfaye also uses it to his advantage. And then there is his mesmerizing voice, which often recalls Michael Jackson! Recommended Tracks: Belong to the World, Tears in the Rain, Pretty & The Town.
