This should probably be posted as a list, but what are some albums that you didn't like at first, but after repeated listening, the album came to become one of your favorite albums of all time?
I have a feeling that this could easily be one of those albums, and I am curious to see if any of the Sputnik users that are pretty tepid on this release right now, may eventually come to the reaction the band was hoping people would have when they made this record.
When I listen to this record I hear the influence of Radiohead/Sigur Ros in the atmosphere, Tool/Meshuggah in the rhythms, and all the while, a brilliant and modern approach to music production/songwriting, that is just begging to be imitated by a new generation of bands, just as the aforementioned bands did to Karnivool.

I may be in the minority here, but BTBAM and Opeth were two bands that I wasn't too impressed with at first, but after listening to Colors and Ghost Reveries repeated times, something clicked, and I finally realized the brilliance of each record.

mad right now"
Who are you talking to here baseline? I hope its not my post, because you can't honestly tell me that there isn't a record
that you didn't get/like on your first listen, but after time became a favorite of yours.

Base just wondering, do you hate this or sound awake more?

What are you implying then? You first impression of everything is 100% accurate, and your final verdict?
For your sake I hope not, because honestly one of my favorite things that happens for me with music is when I don't
necessarily fall in love with an album at first, but after a while, the record becomes an obsession for me. I love when I
come to realize that the music was just challenging me a little bit, and I finally come to understand what the musicians
were trying to convey when they wrote the music. To me, this is how music continues to evolve.

'this is unfocused and disjointed all the way round.'
Yeah I 100% agree with you. I think 'disjointed' is the perfect word to describe this

"This is definitely weaker, at least Sound Awake had some decent songwriting here and there, this is unfocused and disjointed all the way round."
This is the main reason I posed my original question of what are some records that you didn't like at first, but after repeated listens, something clicked and it became one of your favorite albums?
I don't mean to sound pretentious here, but as a composer, and someone who has a degree in music theory, this record is anything but weak songwriting. This record has a multitude of examples of a band that has finally realized their unique attributes, and then built upon them, and by introducing new challenging harmonic and melodic ideas, has created a unique sound and record for the ages. Like I said before, this is the type of record that will most likely influence many future bands, and compliment a new direction in modern rock music.

"Well yeah, I'm okay if you like something then it grows on you. But if you hate or dislike something and it grows on you then one has to question your logic, attention span and ability to listen to music."
I am not simply trying to argue here, but lets say you know little to nothing about music theory, and you listen to some atonal music for the first time. Its sounds ridiculous and abrasive. Later you learn about the 12 tone properties that it is built upon, you listen to it more, and suddenly it clicks with you and you like it. I know this is an extreme example, but for another example, when Stravinsky first premiered The Right of Spring, there was a riot at the theater because people didn't understand the new ideas it was presenting. Now, the piece is immortalized as one the first times that music moved away from tonality, and is one of the most celebrated pieces of music of all time.
Now I am not saying that this record is on a scale that is equal to that of Stravinsky, but rather I am asking how many times have you come across music that just didn't click with you at first, but like Stravinsky, given enough time, the brilliance of its intention becomes apparent. I hope this record is one of those for many of the users that clearly liked Karnivool's previous records, but for some reason, this new record just doesn't quite resonate with them yet.

"And by weak I mean uninspired or pointless, not technically weak."
think that I understand what you meant. What I am getting at however, is that I have a feeling that this record is simply not the direction that most fans of the band expected them to take. Catching them off guard, there are probably many people that will unfortunately miss out on the brilliance that this record has to offer, just because their preconceived expectations weren't realized with this record.

music"."
Not sure what you mean here, but honestly I am not trying not to be judgmental or turn this discussion in to a competition over who likes the most obscure music. I honestly feel however, that given enough time, many longtime Karnivool fans who didn't like this record at first, may come to like it more.

I honestly respect baseline probably more than than she knows. And also I have been a regular member of this website
since 2009 so I don't exactly fit in to your new user profile. Just saying.
