I'm a vinyl/digital guy myself mostly (though I still like a nice CD for my car, sharing or whatev, if
it's the right price).
Does the space on vinyl depends on the speed of it? Like 45 RPM is better than 33 RPM, and cutting
down the time per side doesn't matter if the RPM doesn't change? That's what I've always thought, but
it could easily be wrong.
EDIT: thanks a lot azn

Yes. Singles and EPs are often at 45 to take advantage of space, while LPs are at 33 to conserve it.

Neither one is 'better' per say, it's a space thing.

Can you explain this? I get that 33 RPM allows for better space, but isn't 45 RPM technically a higher quality?

The quality of the vinyl is based on how it's manufactured (grams, the quality of the material to make the final product) and the source tape (let's say, masters compared to some copy of a copy of the master tapes).

Oh yeah I get that that all is important, but does RPM not matter at all? I always figured that a faster RPM meant that the needle was taking in more information at all times which would mean a better accuracy for playback, but IDK.

Nope, it's just having two options for manufacturing comes in handy. RPM and quality have no direct correlation.

Damn I always thought it did. That's good to know though, thanks for the answers man.

Sure. It's easy to tell quality. Take a 180 gram vinyl and move it through the air, then do the same with some cheap-ass flimsy record your dad has had for thirty years.
Lol.

haha most things these days are 180 gram, no?
|
| |
No. I just bought a re-release of The Zombies Odessey and Oracle and the physical vinyl is
absolute garbage, along with the packaging. Sometimes it's hard to tell until you open it up.

Oh, damn. Why is 180 gram better, if you know off the top of your head? It's easy to assume that more mass means better quality, but I don't know how it's actually different enough to care.

The higher the gram count the more durable it is, as you can play it more without wearing it out and it takes more to physically damage it, if you were to leave it out in the sun for an hour or something. I left a few records of mine in the sun on accident awhile back, and the 180s were slightly warped but some of the others were toast.

this album lacks replay value. The only song i clearly remember is VI XI and vast emptiness. Might lower this rating.

I was initially more into disc 1 but I actually listen to disc 2 more often now. His dark/somber aesthetic on that half is just way more captivating and the beats are fucking powerful.
