almost all...except 1 or 2 if I recall correctly (DuVall is the lead on "hung on a hook" for sure maybe on phantom i'm not sure). On some songs they sing together or in turn with back up vocals from the other one (title track) but it's Cantrell voice that you hear the most and on several other songs it's almost just Cantrell (low ceiling, hollow, stone, voices...).

DuVall is the lead singer dude, he's the main guy, but the harmonies between him and Cantrell (and Staley and Cantrell) are a big part of Alice's sound.
It's kind of shared, but Cantrell is never really the "lead" on this album.

Technically DuVall is the lead singer of AIC v.2.0, especially when it comes to performing most of their classics where Layne was the lead singer eg. "Man In The Box", "Would" etc.

This tends to differ with their new music though, with Cantrell assuming Staley's role and DuVall filling Cantrell's previous position vocally. And just as Cantrell provided the lead on several of their tracks in their "Layne" era such as "Heaven Beside You", "Over Now" etc, DuVall has also predominantly sung lead on a few of their tracks on the last two albums.

For the most part though, especially on this album their voices seem to harmonize and blend into one, but Cantrell's voice definitely dominates DuVall's, even though DuVall clearly has the superior voice of the two.

True.

@Lloyd : they sing together on most of the tracks (harmonized voices ok) maybe Duvall is the lead singer on the paper but what you can hear most on the last two albums is Cantrell's voice for sure (I don't know what it's like when they are singing live, maybe it's just the mix on the albums) as I said : on low ceiling, scalpel, stone, voices (and I don't remember them all) you can especially hear Cantrell's voice, even if they sing together I don't understand how you can say otherwise.

Duvall sings on hung on a hook (one of my fav), you can hear the difference (at the beginning of the song at least then on the chorus they sing together I think...).

On the topic of AIC and lead singer(s), Jerry Cantrell sums it up best in an interview with "The Canadian Press" with these words - "We’re a team. And we don’t classically have a lead singer. That’s what this band kind of evolved into being. There’s a lot of bands that have more than one voice in rock and roll, and we've kind of modeled ourselves after being that. We do it in our own way".

I dunno man. They're pretty damn consistent. Even their weakest album is a 3.5-4.0, which says a lot about them. AND they wrote and recorded Jar of Flies in 2 weeks, so maybe a song a day is excessive, but a song a week is totally doable.

Yes, one song per week so as to maintain their unparalleled trademark consistency and quality. 52 songs per year would keep this Alice In Chains junkies cravings at bay!

They need to do another Jar of Flies type acoustic thing now. Another album like this would be too samey. They need to switch it up, their comeback has been made

Not sure how I really feel about it yet. I expected something more diverse. It's decent but really safe compared to Black Gives Way To Blue and to what they're capable of.

Usually when someone says a song is stuck in their head, they mean the chorus or the lyrics but with this album its the guitar solo half way through Low Ceiling.
