"get rid of the vocals and you've got yourself a really nice album. this applies to most emo music. sputnik just loves vocals like this, and pop punk vocals, and post-hardcore vocals. all that overly american teenage angst sounding stuff. WHY. i just don't understand how people can tolerate someone who sounds like the singer of this band. admittedly he's tolerable on some of the songs, but on Heartbeat in the Brain (for example) it's just gross.

just trying to get this off my chest here ok sorry. i like to believe there's always at least one band in a particular genre that i can like."

no. just no.

"Cuz punk is the best blanket genre"

yeah, punk turned into hardcore, post punk, new wave, dark wave, no wave, indie, post-hardcore, emo, noise - awesome stuff.

"That's like saying some peoples charts are 100% rock"

certainly, yeah, except that punk and metal were made to be deliberately different from rock and pop, while still using the same instruments and such.

"alt/indie and punk are pretty close to each other but i wouldn't call it punk"

it may not seem so obvious now, but the most famous indie bands from the 80s and 90s are stupidly punk influenced, like extremely obviously so I wouldn't say it's a stretch at all.

y'all are forgetting bluegrass, ragtime, country, and reggae. none of them are rock or jazz, well country is these days, but that's because rock came out of country (and r&b and jazz) so yeah.
