I thought it was one of his most popular albums?
|
| |
it's quite popular with bowie fans or general music enthusiasts but not really to the general public, people seem to know ziggy and maybe a couple of others but in general the public seem to know hit songs rather than albums and low has exactly zero hit songs
|
| |
Oh, that explains it. Makes sense, yeah

yeah, prob considered best by his fans but pales in comparison to the popularity of ziggy. low is an absolute masterpiece, a must hear for pretty much everyone imo

This has been on rotation since release. Really enjoying it. If it doesn't fade on me, it'll be an easy 4.5.

I think this guy is more of a singles artist for me

dunno if you've heard Low but there's nothing remotely resembling a single on the second side of that record and it totally rules. he was nearly faultless in the 70s to me.

This album is the highest selling album in the UK at the minute.

"I honestly haven't heard Low. I need to get on that"
"it's quite popular with bowie fans or general music enthusiasts but not really to the general
public, people seem to know ziggy and maybe a couple of others but in general the public seem to
know hit songs rather than albums and low has exactly zero hit songs"
^ spot on
The whole grouping from Station to Station to Lodger (I tend to put StS in with the trilogy) are
very gloomy and atmospheric. Very different than anything he'd done before or since however
distinctly Bowie none the less.
It's actually my second favorite group of work from him for me I actually prefer the "Ziggy" phase
but not Ziggy so much as Hunky Dory, The Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs AND
Ziggy SD. That whole group of albums just has some much great rock in it with some real top
musicians.
|
| |
Yeah, Ziggy and Aladdin Sane are my favs, but Station to Station rules hard as well. Next time I'm at a record store, I'll keep Low and Lodger in mind as I need them
