I usually have my doubts about mainstream hip hop. This is pretty good. Not as good as the high ratings suggest. Just because your comparing it to crap doesn't mean its a 5. But it is a good sign for mainstream hip hop which is mostly garbage.

@GaryJohnson: Just to be clear, you are saying this album is just like every other mainstream rap album. Tell me please, what album this can be compared to? Because the only mainstream rap that this album compares to is 2pac and Nas. No meaning? Lil Wayne has no meaning. This actually has a meaning, but I'm assuming you didn't listen to it very well.

this review made me cringe throughout the entire thing... so hyperbolic because you have no true reason this album is a classic hip hop album and not just another poppy carbon copy of 90s hip hop.
"this isn't a well done carbon copy; this is different. This is the story of a kid in Compton, one who tried not to let the city corrupt him."
how is that any different than anyone from NWA to The Game? thats the story of almost every single west coast artist.
""thiis is an incredibly deep lyrical album"
can you, or anyone, name a single lyric that is even somewhat deep? u sure couldn't in the review.
Best of all you compare it to another poppy album, Kanye West's. which is a good comparison because people call this shit hip hop when its mostly pop music and when he does rap its nothing new, same old compton bullshit weve heard about for 20 years but this is somehow revolutionary because you like the poppy sound.

idk or care about mainstream rap. you don't have to listen to only things people shove in your face through a record label. his message is basically The Game's message only he came along 10 years later, told the same story and made the sound more poppy. this is a good album but its not a classic and it doesn't go with nas or 2pac or any old hip hop at all. nas and 2pac rap about a lot more than themselves and where they lived- these were just motivation to them, that is all kendrick talks about.
