Amazing album of an amazing band. Despite it may not be my favourite album from them, I really think that it was the pinnacle of their creativity. It's perhaps the most complex album of one of the most complex prog bands ever.

Personally I'm more impressed by Free Hand's balance of accessibility and complexity, especially the streak of three songs Free Hand-Time to Kill-His Last Voyage.
But yeah this is also phenomenal for sure. My favorite tracks in order of appearance are Pantagruel's Nativity, Edge of Twilight and The Moon Is Down

Good choice, Sab!...I really love ''Wreck'' on here. i think my fave GG album is in A Glass House which is also a balance of accessibility and complexity. It's pretty much rocking and has Medieval touches, mainly in ''Experience'.'

Maybe. But, it's rather difficult to me to choose between Acquiring The Taste", "Octopus", "In A Glass House", "The Power And The Glory" and "Free Hand". All over the last decades I Change my opinion more than once. Initially it was "Free Hand". After that it was "The Power And The Glory". In the last years it was "In A Glass House". This isn't usual in me. I think Gentle Giant is a single case to me. This is the only prog classic band with 5 albums rated with a 5.0. I think I never did that with another band till now.

Playing the Fool is excellent too, shame they don't play anything from this album except a cameo of the title track.

Yeah, I agree. But they have so many great tracks...
In my opinion "Playing The Fool" is one of the best live albums ever made. Actually it's my favourite live album from the 70's. It's amazing how the band could performed live such complex music.

I love bands that add extended/improvised/new sections to their music during live shows, it gives the band the chance to really show their worth. Like, playing songs note for note is fine, but really, would you go to listen to the speech of a famous book writer if he only read his own book aloud? I imagine you'd want to hear his interesting thoughts instead!

Nicely said Sab, I agree. A new section often comes from an improved rendition of the song or an adaptation, an arrangement for a live version, or it's a pretext for an instrument's solo. Gentle Giant, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Phish are all bands I enjoy when they add live extended sections.
