"You know what I'm gonna give this guy some feedback. Listen buddy if you want to write good reviews you're going to have to be more objective. And by objective I don't mean accepting the truth that this album is crap, but at least try to write more about the music and less "i did this, i did that, i thought this, you might think that blah blah". Describe the music, songwriting, atmosphere, that sort of stuff. Trust me you're not nearly good enough at writing to pull off a different style of review."
Well, thanks for the feedback, I suppose.
I understand about being objective; being a lab scientist means that my entire life revolves around objectivity and empirical data. It also wasn't my intention to right a traditional review. Honestly, this would have been a sound off if it were shorter. As I said, though, anyone with ears can tell immediately how musically proficient the album is. The ferocious riffing, polyrhythmic drumming and and mathcore-ish time changes are all readily apparent.
Music isn't just a bunch of notes on a sheet though; that's not how we experience it. I know I wasn't alone in my immediate loathing of this album, but I stuck it out until I grew to like it, to understand it. The album is inaccessible as all Hell, but if you stick it out you might find yourself enjoying it. That was my point.
I also don't think that something I wrote as a stream-of-consciousness while half-awake at 4 AM is evidence enough for you to judge my capacity to write.

This was honestly a really good review thh. It relates what most of us went through, and thus provides advice for new listeners to be patient with it.

This album is very nearly flawless in my opinion. It wasn't a grower for me either, as I was hooked on it's intensity instantly. Roll on the next Converge album.
As for the review, it read more like a personal account than an actual review of the album. You could have just summarized your personal experience in one single comment.

That was kinda the point.
The album has been reviewed from a technical perspective countless times, theres really nothing he could really add at this point, so he tried to do something different.

Christ, this album has a crap ton of 5's. Truth be told, it's well deserved, although it's more of a 4.5 to me. Heaven in Her Arms was my jam like 2 years ago. Yup, my jam.

Before I begin, it should be noted that this is not so much a "review," per se.
