Every time I hear this band I think "deathcore deathcore deathcore" so why do their fans keep calling them technical death metal? Are they dumb?

Well, I think I was having a bit of a fan rage moment when I originally posted it. I was trying to be a bit more objective this time around.

The first song is really good. The rest is enjoyable at least.

While not the best review, I totally agree with the assessment of the Autotheist suite. The very first time I heard it I went "Wait, this is Devin Townsend riffage... okay now an attempt at Devin Townsend vocals... oh shit now it's a latter Opeth mellotron interlude? Ooh that is some tasty guitar tone... Is that a Mikael Akerfeldt guest solo?



To be honest, "Devin Townsend mixed with Opeth" would at first sound like a potentially great thing... but not when it is so blatantly derivative and separated/exposed (here is the Devin section, and now the Opeth section etc). This album is pretty underwhelming.
