okay, I'm spinning this rn just to confirm my 4.5...recently I 5d Por Este Rio Acima - Fausto...I guess now that I am a dad I'm running though some of my dad's spins, almost inadvertently.

Damn these vocals are raspy! No cheese here imo

Pete Trewavas was one of the best bass players of the '80s. Drumming is also great, Ian Mosley was an asset to the band at this time. Not to mention the masterful Steve Rothery, one of my favourite guitarists of all time.

The debut is the band's most baroque release. Another masterpiece.

This was my top ranked Marillion album back in the 80's possibly due to the darker sound of the album very underrated band in my humble opinion

This band was laughed at when I was growing up. I remember an article reminiscing about jesters tear which in no short terms asked them to fuck off.

This one does conjure up images of outcast 80s young teens in their bedrooms pouring over the album cover and ‘relating’ to the lyrics.

Quality.

That Blackadder Goes Forth ending was discussed at my school the day after it was on the tele. As in we had a class discussion about it with the teacher. It is still one of the greatest things that has ever been on.

“The darkroom unleashes imagination in pornographic images
In which you will always be the star, always be the star, untouchable
Unapproachable, constant in the darkness
Nursing an erection, a misplaced reaction
With no flower to place before this gravestone
And the walls become enticingly newspaper thin
But that would be developing the negative view
And you have to be exposed in voyeuristic colour
The public act, let you model your shame
On the mannequin catwalk, catwalk
Let the cats walk, and the cat walks”

Absolutely fucking awful lyrics but it’s all part of the charm, what an amazing album, love it
