I have yet to see what's so amazing about this.. Am I missing something? "King for A Day" is a good

song, but I don't get why everyone is going so ga-ga over it. Everything on here just sounds like

everything else in the post-hardcore world.

Oops, the rating dropped to a 3.8 after I rated. #sorrynotsorry

I think what you're missing is that people generally are not freaking about this being amazin... a 3.8 on sputnik is pretty average #dont #give #a #fuck #about #ratings

look at the frontpage for popular albums:

ratings for those albums are (not in order)

3.8

3.7

3.9

4

4.1

4

3.8

for the kind of music that ends up on sputnik, the typical 'well-received record' gets between a 3.6 and 4.1

people flipping out is when you see above a 4.1 after ~100 votes

At least the album art is a lot better than their previous two, right?

Alright, I misunderstood you, it sounded like average albums are a ~3.8.

Well, actually, there are ways of thinking about it that make that sort of true... sputnik self-selects (so, generally speaking, the albums that people tend to add into the database are albums that they like...)... in the aggregate, these end up becoming the pool of well-received albums that end up with an average of 3.5+ ...

so in the grand scheme of all music: those scores indicate an above average mark

but considering only music on sputnik: maybe not all that impressive

its hard to know without all the data
