I'd suggest Final Fantasy 10. while it's not my favorite and its a tiny bit more linear than other entries in the series. It's imo an amazing game with a good story and potentially a lot easier to get into. It will introduce you to the basics of what you get in a ff game. Graphically it still looks amazing too.

If you are experienced with other RPGS though 7 may be the better choice, its the one I started with and while it shows it's age its timeless to me and has a bit more depth. I'm sure some may recommend this game but i can't speak on that.

Well honestly all Final Fantasy's in my opinion have great artwork and it can be up to personal preference on what the best option is in that department. Story wise that can be debatable too. I strongly feel though that the story in 10 is one of the better stories in the series and gives you incentive to keep playing throughout. If something happens though and the story or characters just don't click with you for some reason. You can always try out a different game eventually.

honestly 1 (and it's countless and countless remakes/hacks/etc.) is my favorite final fantasy

really? I've gotten pretty far and was enjoying 1 but i ended up losing my save and never revisited. I want to play it again though. My personal favorite is 8 which i admit is flawed but i love it mainly due to nostalgia.

i know it's a weird choice, play it's countless remakes, it infinitely improves upon almost every aspect of the game overall, despite many of them reducing difficulty.

My high school years went on it too! Fucking amazing game and it used to annoy the hell out of me how overshadowed it got next to VII

Never finished VIII, just never got drawn into it. VI and X are clearly the best for me, although X has a very special place in my heart and in my personal development that means I can never look at it without bias.

lets not forget 9, a game far superior to 10 with a fantastic card game, chocobo treasure hunting, deep ass characters, hard ass bosses, wonderful music and back to basics combat system.
