giving it a 3 so far. not typically my cup of tea so i cant give rave reviews like everyone else, however, as a singer myself, i love listening to her voice. its very refreshing.

she's so often touted as being this refined taste and it gets my goat
like I realize that her roots in antifolk pretty much go directly against that but that she's hailed by her fans as "real" music – that is, not that hooligan shit they play on the radio/in the clubs – when her stuff is so insubstantial (aside from a few great songs on Soviet Kitsch) irritates me to no end

i've never gotten into spektor in a big way at all but i'm inclined to disagree with you on this one conrad budday. the touting isn't her deal; the songs might be insubstantial but then so is some of the best music. i never think that's my reason for being on/off with her. AJJ is like the most insubstantial band ever and i adore them.
but then i guess we all have different definitions of all those things!
