Thats how I feel. Holy mountains is good but between the highlights of this and hypnotize, there's more than a full album of better material

Idk, even if you feel that way I think an album needs some kind of emotional payoff and I don’t think any other track can do that, and yes that includes Lost in Hollywood.
But I’m very biased that song is also probably top 5 SOAD for me. That video of them performing it in Armenia is fucking haunting

I am very partial to this album in particular, and Lost in Hollywood, both as an album closer and an "emotional payoff" as you stated. Dont get me wrong Holy Mountains ain't bad by any means, it's a great song actually, I am just super nostalgic for this album. I think it's pretty comfortably their best work and I jammed it a shitload when it came out, which was in my formative years, if not right at the tail end of them.

I def feel the same about this record. I really fondly remember my dad’s scratched up CD that I’d pop into my little Walkman. With age tho I’ve gotta say I like Toxicity more. It’s just undeniable at this point for me.
That said man this is second place (shit… maybe self titled? I don’t fuckin know) for me. But it still just feels incomplete. Idk, every song here is good at like bare minimum but knowing that this and Hypnotize were recorded at the same time just activates something in my autistic ass brain that makes me go “well what if it was just one record?”
I truly love every song on this album, just some more than others. And I hate Daron’s revisionism on Cigaro. That song is about American imperialism and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Lol yeah nah I get it, that makes sense. I haven't jammed toxicity in a minute, probably do that tomorrow.
I wasnt aware of the Daron/cigaro revisionism u speak of

Also I've been thinking about this the last couple of weeks, especially in the wake of current events. I love soad but if I had to pick a favorite politically charged band, it absolutely HAS to be rage. God I love their music, Timmy is probably hands-down my fav bassist oat
