"Lastly, these guys are definitely into their 20's. Would hardly call that very young - Sonny Moore was like 15 when he was singing for FFTL. Not saying I think they were amazing or anything, and Skrillex is garbage, but just a point of reference."

Yea exactly. Protest the Hero was like 17 when they wrote kezia, and kezia holds this down and beats it senseless.

I wouldn't really drag Kezia in this, as I doubt you'll find more than 10 bands from that age that delivered such an album.

Kezia was more of a 1 time thing

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, didn't bother to read through pages of comments, but the beginning of The Sower sounds very DGD-ish, though I still like it.

Definitely enjoying this so far. Makes for a really good start-of-Spring album.

@Aphrodisiac, Scoot, and Killerhit.. Here's something I don't understand, why waste your time commenting on an album you don't even like. That's so pointless to me. I mean I guess maybe you want your opinions to be seen but one little comment is all you need. You don't have to keep bashing a band because you can. I could easily do the same probably for most of the bands you like because in my opinion you have a lousy taste in music saying that this deserves a 1. Yeah the production isn't the best, yeah it may be generic, but it's still an excellent start for the band. Who knows, maybe on their next album they will choose a different producer. And I think this album's lyrics are pretty damn good, yeah probably not the best ever. But I listen to music every day and I have since I was like 12. I'm now 21 and yet still I find the lyrics to be very imaginative and deep. They connect with me, maybe because I have I can find meaning in them. Maybe you can't. And the singing is top notch. One of the best vocalists I've heard in the genre. And this is my favorite genre so trust me, I have listened to about 500 different bands in the genre at least. And this guy is easily top 10. The musicians aren't the best but with time I think they will get better as do all musicians. Point is, this isn't the best abum ever, but it's definitely not the worst. Definitely doesn't deserve a 1. Maybe a 3 at the lowest.

i'll level with you

albums like rust in peace, abbey road and dark side of the moon have 4.5 averages here

does this match up with them?

take some time to learn how the rating system works. this is absolutely nothing special. it's dance gavin dance stripped of everything that makes them somewhat unique.

Okay that's your opinion
stop approaching this from an objective stance because it makes you look stupid. Any album by any artist can be enjoyed or hated by any listener. Your experience is not law. Shut the fuck up,

MattTheSkylines, like I already said, I like this album and i'm also telling you to shut the fuck up. I'm embarassed to be associated with you in a musical sense right now. Stop talking.

While I agree this doesn't deserves a 1, I also feel like I was REALLY generous with my 3. A 2.5
(average) seems to be what this truly deserves. At least compared to some other albums.

i've actually given this 3 full listens (which is probably way too generous) and it's grown off me much more. HlH could definitely put out a great album in the future, but ultimately this suffers from poor songwriting and and overall generic sound. Has this been said yet?

@jredmond, you're right, the album does start to wear off after a few listens, but I'm still digging the melodies, so whatevs.

"Summary: Trick question: try and find a more phenomenal debut from such a young band. Answer: you just can't..."

Well that's a bold statement.

KSK1, what's your beef bro? Why is it so bad to stick up for something you believe in? I'm not even saying it's the best album ever. Just saying it doesn't deseve a 1. And you have no idea what my musical sense is. I've been in multiple bands, write my own lyrics, sing, play guitar, and have been drumming for about 12 years. I'd say I have some pretty good musical sense brah.

I'm just saying arguing with people about music on this site (especially music of this sort) won't get you anywhere. You made an account to tell the people off who don't like the album. It's like calling someone a "faggot" on youtube. Fucking pointless.
