Hmm ...but they haven't released anything since 2006.

Was it really 2006? DAMN! It would be nice to get a Tool fix(By this I mean SOEN) every couple years.

Enjoyable album.

I'm afraid to spend money on this... worth the scratch guys?

I'd support them. They should ditch the vocalist, though.

@Omni
If you like Tool you'll probably dig this.

Kinda expected a bit more from a DiGiorgio - Lopez collab, but this is a nice Tool-rippoff attempt

So I got super busy about when this dropped and then forgot about it and finally got around to checking it out now. I guess it was worth a listen or two, but it was definitely a letdown after the anticipation I had for a Lopez/DiGiorgio collaboration. There are cool moments in the album, but I feel like the vocals kill every song. The guy is a huge Maynard clone but misses everything good about Keenan. As others have mentioned, his lack of dynamics make him painful to listen to, and his vocal lines are boring, repetitive excerpts from Tool songs. If they released an instrumental version of the album, it would be significantly better.
As for Lopez...there were some cool parts, but nothing too exciting or "wow"ish, and nothing that topped his Opeth stuff (Damnation remains his best work).

Yeah this is good enough for me. I grew up on TooL and I can consider a fix seeing that there's hasn't been a new album from them since 2006.
Vocals are kinda eh, guitar is a bit weak but overall pretty good....

I realized recently that, despite the vocals, this is still a better Tool album than the last Tool album. :lol:

^^
Band is going right into my tool playlist (Yes I take albums and mush them into my own playlist, sometimes bands just can't make their albums flow well)
I would say that this is a mix of lateralus and Undertow on first listen

Excellent review, your summary says it all for me really...not sure what pushes it over the edge for a 4 for me tho. It's definitely nothing new in terms of style, but oh boy is this pulled off nicely. Plus, gotta be points thrown out for getting to hear some Lopez again ![](smile.gif)
