"I don't understand how people could come up with these things. Are you still sitting electronic music 101?"

It's called being able to perceive aesthetic similarities. The gradual build of rhythmically disparate bits to create a groove, the sticky-nervous haunted dance floor atmosphere, the twitchy drum patterns. Just because Villalobos doesn't drench his tunes in cheesy ghost synths and bury his vocals in a million gallons of reverb doesn't mean that these people are on vastly different sides of the electronic spectrum.

I've now listened to this around 5 times and it's simply amazing. Not sure where people are coming from saying it wears off quickly. There's so much going on, I can see me listening to this for a while.

Except there isn't a single moment on here when anything he does resembles Villalobos' work at all, be it obvious or even how both artists attempt to create this internal sense of familiarity and rhythm by slowly drawing together, otherwise completely unrelated, components. None more so than any other house artist not working within the realms of the mainstream. The comparison exists solely because Villalobos must have been the first name you thought of

"Unashamedly, and almost unassumingly, amazing - a breathless wonder"

What does this even mean? The review is well written, but that summary is a little pretentious.

Any guesses why Villalobos is the first name I thought of? Maybe because Talabot's music reminds me of his more so than anyone else's? Which was my entire point lol. If I get remarkably similar emotional reactions to both musicians, why wouldn't I try to compare and contrast the two for the sake of analysis? Your implication that Talabot's music is as distant from Villalobos's as it is to, say, Gui Boratto's or Booka Shade's is ludicrous. Even on shallow levels like the approach to texture or atmosphere, or the balance of focus between rhythm and melody, Talabot falls far more align with the Villalobos sound. I'm not saying they're exactly the same, but then again neither are Muse and Radiohead and that doesn't stop everyone from constantly comparing the two.

Villalobos paints in blacks and whites, Talabot is all color, oversaturated and overexposed
