This is one of their least wanky albums. Systematic Chaos is prob the most

I think you're right Nero. Awake is also relatively less wanky, and ofcourse FII. It's fnny how their earlier music was more mature and had more character than their modern music where they're trying to prove they can metal hard. I thought youngsters were always trying to be extra macho, mid life crisis perhaps?

"These Walls" was the only song I really liked on this album.

@Necro Bro, how come we haven't had more deepmusixchats, I don't think I've really noticed you before (I don't mean that in a harsh way...)

I think the main reason for the wankery is to drag out songs for the sake of being 10 mins long. Almost all of it happens at the end of a song.

Tbh the wankery itself doesnt bother me, its more the length it goes on for.

Valid point. ADTOE doesn't sound as heavy because of the production I think, but JPs guitar tones are still pretty metal inclined, and his use of the 7 string isn't enjoyable, too raw and Nu-metal sounding.

Agreed hard, it's fairly inoffensive but there's only so much I can take

I think the worst example is the outro solo on This Dying Soul

@johnnydeking29: Yeah, I've only become more prominent on the site since October, even though I've been on here since 2009 :P

@Omair sort-of agreed (Bridges in the Sky is classic DT imo)

Yeah, mainly in an "on-and-off" sorta way. Starting with my Stone Temple Pilots review during October, I decided to come here more frequently... the only reason I don't have many comments right now is because I left the site for a while and got all my initial comments deleted :P

JP wanks too much in Bridges in the sky I think, and his 7 string gets on my nerves. The instrumental section and chorus are really good though, Rudess really shines on that track.

Lol, so you came back and the next thing we know is that you're a contrib? Nice one bro

I guess there's a bit of wank, but I still dig it. Rudess is good, but loses all credit he gained on that horrible solo on Breaking All Illusions (after JP's WOW solo)

The Glass Prison has some of their best wank, especially the keyboard solo

But dude his organ solo on Bridges nullifies the BAI solo, which I don't remember, will have to listen

again. Breaking all illusions 2 second funky bit might be the most fresh part of ADTOE, was hoping for

more stuff liek that, but DT doesn't have the balls to take risks anymore

The BAI keyboard solo after JP's is the ponciest, most awkward thing I've heard in a long time. Yeah, they're stuck in a rut, sad time...

A rut since ToT yup. Actually I think they're catering to their fans who expect time signatures of 123/75 and most of the newer fans are pleased so the guys in DT are happy. DT's been whipped for a while now imo dude. So much talent being wasted.
