Listening to this now and I've got to admit this is the best I've heard since IA. Amazing so far.

KILL, I like to enjoy the new stuff I find. That's what's taking me so long. I felt like I tried way
too much shit way too fast back when I first joined here, but now I just wanna take it all in.

Damn this is so moody and atmospheric. It's so different than their later releases I love it.

Yeah this is back when PT were good :D
You gonna listen to The Sky the Moves Sideways next, Mongi?

I love how you always bash newer PT on the band's threads :P

Yea I'm working my way backwards I'll try that soon. And blasphemy they're still amazing haha
|

Sorry but I'll always have a fairly strong disliking for PT's later stuff. I kinda have a love/hate relationship with the band.
I guess you could say I love them sometimes, always never :D

Damn, Mongi won't get that yet.

What is it about the later stuff provokes your ire?
I am kinda half and half on it. The older stuff worships PF a little too much for my taste.

@Nag: Thought I did have this rated actually. I need to give it another listen soon, I haven't listened to this anywhere near as much as The Sky Moves Sideways or Up the Downstair for some reason. I'm pretty sure this is about a 4 for me but I'll hold off on rating it for now to give me more incentive to jam it again soon.

This is looking pretty 5 worthy for me. There was absolutely nothing about this I did not enjoy.

ire??
The older stuff definitely has a strong Pink Floyd influence (amongst other influences) but I think Wilson does that kind of psychedelic stuff much better than he does the whole alt-prog thing. His vocals and terrible lyrics are nowhere near as off putting to me in their earlier stuff (partly because a big chunk of their early stuff is more instrumental based).

He is not a terrible vocalist but not a great one either he's hit or miss. The vocals were minimal on this compared to everything later. But the music on IA more than makes up for his sometimes weak vocals.

When it comes to their newer stuff, I enjoy Wilson's execution of said lyrics more than anything. The lyrics aren't masterful, no, but he sounds genuinely heartfelt about what he's singing. Especially on albums like In Absentia or Fear of a Blank Planet.
Anyway, the reason I don't like an album like Stupid Dream as much is because it seems way too poppy and clean to me. The accessible songs get kind of unbearable after a while, despite sometimes hiding dark subject matter within them. I wish more of the songs were like Even Less or Don't Hate Me

Btw Mongi, on the previous page when I said you "won't get that yet" I was referring to the reference to a song from Up the Downstair I put in my comment lol.
