So Bowie was so influenced by Twin Peaks that he wrote an entire album about a supernatural being possessing someone who killed a troubled teenage girl and the detective trying to solve the case...
but I'm Deranged was used for the Lost Highway soundtrack, so I suppose Lynch was impressed
Seems a bit uninspired of a concept?

I will give this further listens, but god do I have so many problems with this album including:
1. Every "segue" was bad
2. It's musically not interesting enough to be 74 minutes (hell I don't know if it had enough to catch me for 40)
3. Concept is just Bowiefied Twin Peaks (no, this isn't a good thing even though I love Twin Peaks)
4. A stretch of 7 tracks in a row I didn't like
Some of the best things about it:
1. The Motel is an absolute classic in an obvious way
2. 6 other tracks including all 3 singles were actually pretty cool
3. Fun jazz piano

This track selection is a 5, ergo this is a 5:
1. Intro
2. Outside [4.5 out of 5]
3. The Hearts Filthy Lesson [5]
4. A Small Plot of Land [4.5]
5. Hallo Spaceboy [4]
6. The Motel [5]
7. Have Not Been to Oxford Town [4]
8. No Control [3.5]
9. The Voyeur of Utter Destruction [4]
10. We Prick You [4]
11. I'm Deranged [4.5] this song is also close to a 5, maybe drifts on a little too much
12. Thru These Architects Eyes [4]
13. Strangers When We Meet [5] better than the Buddah of Suburbia version and a 5
That is a killer 12 song album (plus intro), convinced one of his best now. The album flows surprisingly fine without the segues...would the album have been an actual hit at the time minus the segues?
The best thing to get rid of is the near 10 minutes (!) of Ramona segue into Wishful Beginnings, that was hilariously indulgent.
That playlist is still an hour of music...even tighter you could drop 'No Control' and if you're really getting brutal also 'The Voyeur'.

Loved this era, along with Earthling. So many great songs on these two records, Strangers When We Meet is my favorite Bowie song. A little trimming would've made Outside one of his most interesting records, pretty much Doof's tracklist, agreed.
