I heard that too. I guess maynard was pissed because the label was rushing them to get the cd out. And we all know how big of perfectionists they are. From what it sounds like, this was Maynards "Fuck you" to the label.

But this disc and Mer De Noms are great. This is more of a "chill and relax" cd than Mer De Noms was, which I thought was nice.

I have not heard all of Thirteenth Step, but I've heard most of the songs. I like it, but I think I prefer Mer De Noms. When payday comes, I'll be sure to pick up a copy.

I like thirteenth step better too, it is more melancholic and chill. But both are very good in there own, unique way

13th Step > Mer De Noms. The first half of Mer De Noms is great, but the second half drags the whole album down a bit. 13th Step is far more consistent in my opinion. And it has Pet, which is my favourite thing that they've ever recorded.

I was finally able to buy a copy of Thirteenth Step today. I think it is all of the above. I still think I prefer Mer De Noms, but I only got Thirteenth Step today, so I might need a few days (weeks, months, years!) to let it build on me. I think Blue is one of the most lovely songs I have heard by them, along with Sleeping Beauty.

I've listened to it some more, and I've come to a conclusion. You should be condemned to hell for saying that Vanishing is an average song. It is the best song on the album, in my opinion. In this song, Maynard's voice stands out above any song I've heard by A Perfect Circle or Tool.

Med's right, the second half of Mer De Noms really does drag it down a smidge. But the 1st half is just so f'in good. As a whole, 13th step is probably the better disc. All things considered. But taste matters too, of course...

This is probably the first album I bought, where all of the songs were exceptional, so it has sentimental value to me as well.

Another APC masterpeice, allthough i think songs like Vanishing and Weak And Powerless deserve 9's and 10's. Gravity is the best on this cd by far though.

I love this album. I've had it for ages and it still doesn't get boring. The Noose is the most beautiful song I've ever heard

I love this album. I never get tired of listening to it.

I also really like The Noose... it's like my favorite song of all time.

I can sorta see in this album why APC was originally created to be a soundtrack band only

It was Billy Howerdel's original intention for the band.

heres my complete verdict, i honestly think this album is one of the best ive heard strangely enough.

The Package --- What a good way to start, awesome bass.

W&P --- Under-rated song, needs time to sink in.

The Noose --- Nice little tune, good variety, killer chorus.

Blue --- This song hasnt sunk in yet, but its still a ok song.

Vanishing --- Pure Magic, this is what APC are re-nowned for.

A Stranger --- Textbook APC, could of had some light drums.

The Outsider--- No need to explain, awesome track.

Crimes --- Skip this song, this is 1 tiny downside to the album

The Nurse... --- Mad song, again throwing variety around.

Pet --- I really like this song, lyrics are abit cheesy.

Lullaby --- What where they thinking, skip.

Gravity --- Like the package, a great way to end the CD.

Overall i think this is the same of not better then Mer De Noms. They really did show variety and i admire them for it.

i would have to say this is better than mer de noms.

i know of very few heavy bands who can actually relax me while i listen to them, and APC is one that does that for me.
