Everyone needs to quit giving DT bad reviews on anything. If you are a true DT fan, you will quit your bitching and like it. Haha, at least appreciate good musicianship. I bet none of you could do any better no matter how much you think you could. These men have been doing this their whole lives. They are kick ass, bottom line.

Although I'm a hardcore DT fan, every now and then I find their music on this album annoying. This is near-classic musicianship, but the length of some of these songs mixed with a bit too much wankery keep me from giving it a 5. And I can usually tolerate long songs quite well. Parts like the spoken words in Honor Thy Father are just unnecessary.

And good call clairvoyant. Their song "Sacrificed Sons" off of Octavarium is about 9/11, I believe.

Dream Theater is OK but for a prog band they're so derivative. Technically these guys are amazing but Metallica already played most of this album a long time ago. This album I actually feel is fairly mediocre cause the keyboardist gets less of the attention and the lead singer is really bad. His attempts at rapping, his clean singing voice, his growl- all fall flat on their face. These guys would be better if they had a different singer who wrote their songs for them. Don't get me wrong Petrucci and Portnoy are amazing but they seriously need to use a producer on their albums because all they do is shred/hammer away with no thought as to good musicianship or when their wankery would actually be appropriate in the context of the song.

Well, if you feel that way about Dream Theater, thats understandable. But dont judge them on this album alone, its their heaviest and contains the most wankery by far. For top-notch musicianship and excellent lyrics and vocals, I urge you to check out Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory. DTs best by far.

I swear this album gets better with every listen....

Definately not as good as SFAM and I&W, but I'm =thinking it may soon be my third favorite, where as i could asily say I enjoyed Awake and 6DOIT more than this, now it's much harder to do. I'll give it time, but this album is so solid, probably more than any of their other albums actually.

One word comes to my head every time I pop this disc in my player, "WOW!"

This is such a great Dream Theater record. If your having second thoughts about the record, don't! It's pure genius. I highly recommend this CD to anyone that wants to hear music with a lot friggin' talent.

The first two track are awesome and parts of In the Name of God are sweet, but for the most part this album is just ok.

The solo's could be a bit better instead of them just being "emotionless" but other than that this is a great release.

I have found that many people think this is their weakest album. Tis my fav because I believe this to be their least poppy LP.

I am slowly growing out of Dream Theater.

It's their least poppy LP IMO as well. But it's also one of my least fav DT albums because it borders dangerously close to mainstream hard rock/metal sometimes. That's not a bad thing by any means, but I don't want to hear Dream Theater playing radio rock.

Endless Sacrifice and Stream of Consiousness are in my top 10 DT songs, but the rest of the album ranges from good to meh.
