I kinda don't mind the new album, it's got some tunes. If We Got Caught is a banger, wish Kele would remember how to write lyrics tho

As someone with only a passing familiarity with this band (Though I had the fortune of seeing them perform Silent Alarm at Riot Fest in full), new album is.....pretty alright. I don't think it's the nuclear cringe that a lot of places seem to think it is. The vocals and lyrics are pretty bad, but the rhythm section is loads of fun and there are some really nice grooves.

Of Things Yet to Come and If We Get Caught are the clear standouts for me. A lot of the songs musically have fun things going on, but only sometimes deliver on the promise they have. Sex Magik is a cool single, but the ending is....why? lol

"Hang on, a lot of places think this is ‘nuclear cringe’ whaaa?" the new album. not this

idk where im fallin on it. prolly a 2.5 which is admittedly a big step up from hymns but ive only heard like 4 songs id want to come back to (of things yet to come, if we get caught, day drinking, and by any means necessary). if we get caught is reallly good tho

Yeah, people think new album is cringe lol not Silent Alarm. This album has basically been canonized with the mid 2000's indie rock blitz.

2.5 sounds about right for it. Not horrible, certainly not.....good overall. If We Get Caught is worth the price of admission. Seems like if someone's a fan of Bloc Party still, they know the rub and this is about as good as you can expect from them in 2022.

"as good as you can expect from them in 2022" sounds about right yea. ill prob just jam alpha games as an ep of those handful of songs i like but given the last album was like a 1 to me ill take it ig lol. would still take every album w the old lineup over it tho even four which im kinda lukewarm on

@TheSonomaDude hey, that is a very good Opeth song and probably THE best outro of their career, without a bass player so leave him alone darnit!

The new album is better than Hymns, but overall it's still poor. I like that song called In Situ.
