i love this album + most of the lyrics but the idea that there are actually people who think anarchism would work is kind of terrifying to me
|
| |
as an ideal i can absolutely see the appeal of anarchy, but yeah, we've got a while to go before the population at large could handle it.

no i mean i get the mindset that its based off i get the appeal but like at least in our current society there is noooooo way it would ever ever work in practice
|

too many idiots thinking LOL ANARCHY IS FUN LETS BURN SHIT FUCK SCHOOL for anarchy to really make any positive imprint on society. although I'm not sure it ever could really...

Heya Demi!
Pat's a super articulate guy and actually makes a really compelling case for it in a podcast I listened to last night. I just think regardless of the manner in which capitalism is overthrown/collapses it's gonna be messy. I don't think that's the fault of the system that's replacing it so much as it is the current system leaving us woefully unprepared for life after a money economy.

i disagree. anarcho-capitalism is still okay with the idea of wage labor/profit, which is, to me, one of the biggest problems with capitalism. also, in anarcho-capitialism you would still have businesses owning a lot of the land, which in a way forces people into wage-labor, especially in cities. what's your case for it, though, i'm curious?
|
| |
that sounds more libertarian than it does anarchist to me. anarchy is about destroying the dominance/submission relationships that run society right now. allowing businesses to have complete control would not result in higher wages, we've seen that before, even in american society (the industrial revolution). wages would sink to the point of subsistence. it seems like you value the idea of fair pay for people, but allowing businesses to dictate what that is is not the way to achieve that goal. if you still have a capitalist class, you still have people who are considerably more powerful than others based solely on the fact that they control the means of production.

well assuming you're for completely dismantling the state, you need to account for the vast number of food, gas, school, and dozens of other government subsidies that would no longer be there. the additional cost of living that would result would more than counterbalance any savings you'd get from no taxes. the fact is that we are consuming resources at an unsustainable rate right now. eventually we are going to have to dramatically downsize. i'm not saying i know the answer to how we're going to have some of the institutions and public service projects that we do now, but i know that it won't be at the beneficence of a capitalist class.

im not smart enough for this discussion someone make another list about women so i can call out misogynists and uphold my appearance as an educated individual
|

i just think you're being rather idealistic when you assume that a business operating with a profit-motive is any more likely to tend to the needs of the people than the state. look at what companies are willing to do right now to turn a profit. you've got baby formula companies giving out samples in poor countries to interfere with lactation in mothers so they become dependent on it while also lacking access to clean water to mix with it or the money required to buy enough to properly feed their babies, major electronics companies who will absolutely exploit the hell out of the poor in developing countries to cut down prices here, and retailers who have been steadily driving down the value of food in other countries for the last couple decades so they can force farmers to sell to them at a price barely above the cost of production. and those are just a few examples. those same companies wouldn't hesitate to do the same things to american citizens without the state in the way. if you're going to kill the state and not the businesses, the corporations are just going to step in as the new dominant force, and they're even less interested in the public good than the state.

talk about it anyway tho even if you don't know what you're talking about that's how shit gets learned. i don't have any idea what i'm talking about 99% of the time. i just have a base of knowledge and then i learn specifics from other more worldly people.

honestly the only conclusion i can come to as to why so many people on here think that women have worse taste inherently is that they don't care enough about them to actually get to know them or be friends with any of them cause i seriously know more girls with rad taste than men
|
| |
especially with anarchism. a big part of it is that human emotion and feeling is more valid than the dark, mysterious interests of the global hegemon that is us politics.

like i was talking to my friend bao about infest and iron lung the other day but OH WELL I GUESS WOMEN JUST NO NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC
|
| |
probably because they judge people's taste according to those they meet on sputnik (90% male userbase at least) and are too scared or ignorant to really talk to women IRL and find out about these things. so they just assume all women have mediocre taste, which is obviously asinine.
that said I know a lot more girls with poor taste than dudes, n i've had a fair amount of female friends over the years. but i'm from a small town out in the country so maybe that has something to do with it...
