It's fair unfair to say Eric (hope it's not rude to call you by your name =P) and to generalize this and say critics in general chase the next album is pretty nasty.

It's things like this that make keeping an open mind and breaking from fanboyism almost not worth the time if you'll be slammed for it. =/

I've met a surprisingly little amount of ignorant criticism like TREO5's for this review haha... I was expecting more.

that is because you really don't give the music time to sink in and are always chasing the next big leak for a review

he's one of those adrenaline addicted music review junkies, out there pounding the streets day and night for the latest scoops, letting his life go to waste in search of that elusive next big leak

my wife... my family... gone now. I spent too much time chasing the next big leak I had to leave them in the dust. They couldn't keep up. Some call it crazy-- I call it being an elite music critic.

What are you up to now? 10 albums a day?

Yeah maybe it's true you do maybe it's not, just like your assumption that I don't know good music when I hear it and I don't know good music because I don't d/l? Is that not as baseless a claim as mine? Your original statement is just as ignorant as mine was.

^you're still saying that your statement was ignorant so i dunno how that helped your case at all

Haha all I said was that you don't have nearly as large a context when you listen to music because you've heard so much less (in the same way a 12 year old me was wowed when he heard mediocre music simply because it was better than the Backstreet Boys). I'm not saying context is necessary to appreciating music, that would be dumb, but it's certainly helpful in many instances.

So yeah, you just misread my original statement, or maybe I didn't provide enough background. Either way, you're wrong.

Yeah maybe it's true you do maybe it's not

I literally just showed you how it's not dude, haha. Please, tell me what seems rushed about this or any assessment.

"Random question, but what do you think when you hear an album you don't like?"

Okay here's my deal/attitude. I hear plenty of stuff I don't like and sometimes albeit rarely I will go to a thread and say this is terrible. The majority of the time, though, I just ignore it and only comment on bands/music/cds I do like. I don't normally waste my time listening to music I don't like and then posting about how much I dislike it.

I don't know you can possibly argue that A) you have a larger context as to appreciate EITS's album within or B) that a smaller context helps you appreciate it fairly. I was not even saying those are huge factors or being demeaning... I was simply pointing it out as a reason you like this more than I do. In all honesty, lucky you. You get to enjoy this album, I don't.

I do. It's all a part of music discussion. Perhaps someone who liked what I disliked will give me a better perspective when listening to it again. =)

Yes I understand context is helpful but like I said I have listened to most of the post rock "greats" (All Godspeed, The Earth..., Other Truths, HTTIW, Happy Songs for Happy People) and I still enjoy this. Obviously I jumped on your case to quickly and made some misinformed claims, but like I said I feel that you did the same in your original so..

Yes okay I guess I misinterpreted your original, to me it came off as you were saying "you don't know good music because you haven't heard as much as i have" which apparently it wasn't.

I don't think anyone actively goes out of his or her way to listen to bad music, but you're bound to come across it every now and again. Am I to assume that you think someone who has decided to review music (even as just a hobby) should therefore only write about things he actually enjoys?

Writing about shit music is fun. It's like bullying only sexier.
