With the rate observer pounds out reviews, I'm betting him to get the In flames one done first.

The best of 2011 so far for me.

I thought you might enjoy this more Hawks, what's keeping the score down?

Just didn't really hit me too hard. Don't think it's as good as Communion. This kind of metal really isn't appealing to me all that much recently.

I can understand that, I find myself humming tracks from both this and Communion from time to time; I feel like the orchestra has a stronger presence here and that bumps the album up past their previous for me.

I just haven't been digging the whole cheesy symphonic thing as of late. It's still a really good album, but nothing fantastic.

It's a pretty new concept to me (listening experience wise) and most Death Metal I dislike for one reason or another so this sits pretty high for me, I'm not burned out on it (yet).

Nowadays I'd take an OSDM album over about 90% of the symphonic stuff 99 times out of 100.

Eventually I might end up joining you, for now though I'm satisfied with this.

Fantastic record, far superior compared to Dimmu`s latest effort.

symphonic metal sucks so hard

The record is great, but inferior to the band's previous two albums, imho.
In this, the band finally remembered those godly leads first found in The Ophidian Wheel.

I really want this. Sumerian Daemons and Communion are some of my favorite metal albums.

What does Dimmu even have to do with this? Either way, they're both good, but nothing special.

"I feel like the orchestra has a stronger presence here and that bumps the album up past their previous for me. "
I totally agree with this. Songs like Mad Architect are a great example of this.

What is almost annoying here is that there aren't any actual riffs, besides the guitar chugging.
A problem always present for septicflesh, heavily compensated, though, by their superb songwriting capabilities.
The drums are superb though..........
While some songs are great here, though, others feel pretty formulaic.
edit:
The initial keyboard melody in "Pyramid God" reminds me the main theme from the Requiem for a Dream movie.

the only thing really bringing me back again and again to this album is the drumming. Communion in my opinion is a far better album on all fronts. This album seems poorly thrown together...even though it may not be(I can't imagine it being easy to get a symphony together).

Interesting you say so, as I find Communion to be sounding more inexperienced in the realm of its songwriting and incorporation of orchestra.
But agreed, drumming does rule

Are you serious? They don't even sound remotely the same.
