I think I started thinking about summaries more when I had a few too many people saying my early ones were too generic.
My advice is if there is an obvious one (or part of one) before you start writing the review, then it's all well & good. If not, at least have some key-words ready to go. The review should then flesh it out better. Remember that you don't have to worry about character-length for the most part. But yeah, try not to leave it until the end, but at the same time try not to lock in anything either.
Just making sure Croc. My memory is shocking.

Summaries should, in order of importance:
1) make people read the review
2) sum up the record succinctly
3) reflect the rating
4) be hilarious

I'm so bored of their sound. Lyrically, these guys keep me coming back.

They are some handy guidelines Adam. I'd suggest my summary for this album does do points (1) & (2). Unless someone hates 'Appeal To Reason' of course.
That's the thing Spec. I can see why people might not be digging the overall sound, but the lyrics should keep people coming back... Oh & so should the basslines. Don't forget Joe's bass-work.

Y'know Davey, everytime there's an album I want to review, I realize you've already reviewed it, which completely kills my desire to write my own review. I obviously can't surpass your writing prowess, but I'll try because I have really strong feelings about this album. It's a 2.5 for me but I'm leaning towards a 3 right now.
Siren Song > Sufferer > ATR > Endgame
Hated ATR at first but it really grew on me. Savior is undoubtedly one of the best songs in their entire discography.

I know Davey, I do usually go for the catchier stuff. Maybe it was just a wierd coincidence but this album just doesn't catch me the right way really at any moment. It's just kind of bland.

Sorry Pessimist. How about you tell me the next album you want to review & I'll let you have it. Good to see you're still gonna review this though. Just make sure you've listened to it thoroughly.
Fair enough SS. And I do sort of know what you mean.
Go away chambered. ;-)
No pissing here theaacademy.

Davey I think this is a great review. The concept of this album was discussed by Tim as a 'what if' the world is wrong,
and 'what if' it ended? We could start again and rebuild in a new image. I think you have compared the concept of
rebuilding of the world with a catastrophic diaster in a sensitive way. Punk ideals (and yes I consider alternative
opinions expressed by Rise Against as Punk) are heavily based in society and the real world. So in my eyes
congratulations on linking these moments in music and the world in a sensitive way.

Thanks Coma. Those comments are very much appreciated.
While I had not seen any specific interview regarding the overriding concept of the album, I did allude to it during the review & in subsequent comments. I also don't think that the lyrics were overbearing or too preachy on the album either. When they do approach the line, I think it's for a good cause to make their point clear.
EDIT: That was your 1st comment in over a year. Glad I could bring it out of ya. ;-)

Honestly, if you consider each of the band's releases, I think they are done. I don't think they are capable of releasing an album better than RPM, Siren Songs, or Sufferer. Appeal was very good, but not as good as the ones I just mentioned. This one is good, but nothing special. They can keep making albums and they might be worse, same, or better than this one, but they wont reach that level they had. They could break up tomorrow and I feel like I could let them go and enjoy what they gave us without being too sad for lack of new material.
I hope I'm wrong, I hope the next album is even better than Sufferer; hell as good as Sufferer or Siren Songs would be enough for me. But I don't think they can do it.

This album is a giant snoozefest. What happened to the young, aspiring Tim of Revolutions Per Minute? Everything on here sounds so bland and uninspired.

LOL SS. It's a miracle... I'm a miracle.
At least you can admit your objective rating Daniel. Maybe one day you can adjust your rating to it.
Interesting thoughts Cesar. I guess the key word there is "capable". Are they capable of releasing something better? I'd have to say "yes" (well, maybe not better than 'Sufferer', but right up there with the rest). Then again, I still think 'ATR' is their 2nd best album, so I'm coming from a totally different direction. Once more, I applaud you for looking past any disappointment & still giving this a solid rating.
'RPM' constantly gets mentioned around here. I almost have to ignore any comment that included it since I even preferred their debut over it. It's still great however. These guys haven't made a bad album imo.

I'm getting good at guessing the reviewer based on the summary on the front page. This one was easy.
