Dunno what this guy is listening too. There are some GEMS on this record.
With lyrics like: "I was half the way down, treading the sand" off of Dark Globe.
This guy has to give this record a spin again...THEN write us an actual review.

so I was listening to a couple Roger Waters interviews tonight and it dawned on me that I'm a bit skeptical of the popular narrative about this guy that's been pretty firmly rooted for what I guess you could call a long time now... how the sum of the story typically amounts to "o he went crazy" but eh probably forever be a mystery of rock

Definitely not a bad album despite the sloppiness at times but also not at the level of hidden gem either. "No Man's Land" is an amazing track though.

so insane that he just rocked up to the studio, played Terrapin in one take and that's what's on the album. perfect song

An insane work, but still nice to hear. Agreed.

watching interviews from the early days, it really did seem like Syd was on his way out way before he "lost it". Water's seems like the leader even when Syd is the frontman and main writer. There must have been some very serious discussions about the silliness of some of Syd's songs at the time, i asume as well. Probably used his mental issues as an excuse to let him go. I wouldn't make them the bad guys for that tho, only in hindsight can we understand how serious his neurological problems really were and how much he needed help, help that was not necesarily availabe at the time.
