1987 phew, ok that's gonna take a while but will try to remember.
And actually enjoying this quite a bit. Shiny Happy People is the clear highlight but Texarkana and the closer are pretty good too.
I really only hated Radio Song.

"Shiny Happy People is the clear highlight"
I- uh, hmm
glad you enjoy it I guess
|
| |
Ok Rowbro, you can't just leave it there, what's your pick?
Should have said MY clear highlight maybe

I always thought Near Wild Heaven was the best on here, but Country Feedback and Me in Honey give it a solid run for its money
really, anything but Shiny and Radio Song is good with me lol. two blights on a great album

I always thought Shiny Happy People was like their "Creep", the popular mainstream one that the band members and hardcore fans think is crap
|
| |
Let me relisten to those.
But SHP is not a blight Row, lol dammit. How do u feel about Losing my ririgion?
|
| |
Idk SHP reminds me of The B-52's and that's... a good thing?

yeah all my homies hate Shiny. at least it doesn't have a rap bit lmao
Losing My Religion is great, always has been. a classic REM single but their deep cuts were always the gold

Ok Near Wild Heaven it's good, not my favorite but it's good, the last 2 are pretty great, the B side power right here for sure.

Shiny Happy People is good like once a year, it wears out its welcome very quickly.
The Creep analogy is a good one.

Overrated album. Definitely one of their worst.

I could listen to Creep a lot more often than Shiny
Also, I could listen to both a lot more than the opener here which is an all time duffer
|
| |
Honestly, both Up and Reveal are better than this.

last two tracks on this are god tier but yea this is easily one of rem's weakest pre-00s albums

This is the one that really launched them into the stratosphere. Losing My Religion did the job.

Half this album is what you expect the album to be based on its reputation and commercial success...and half is 'wtf, this is terrible'
Strange album
|

Shiny Happy People is extremely annoying, Low, Belong and Endgame are pointless; and Radio Song is just appalling. The Mills songs are probably my favorites here.

Yeah Radio Song is one of their worst songs easily. Still some great songs here though.

'Radio Song' is awful but having 'Low' two songs after is another insult, just saps all momentum, an average song made worse by the placing...then 'Endgame' is mush and falls another two songs after that...then 'Shiny' which is what it is, you're in the mood or not.
Second half of the album is more consistent but the damage has been done in terms of ever wanting to listen to this from start to finish.
