Up Jumped the Devil is a fuckin spooky work of art. Nick's voice reaches maximum snarl on that track and I love it.

The righteous path is straight as an arrow
Take a walk and you'll find it's too narrow
Too narrow for the likes of me

I'll never get what people like about Nick Cave's music. I tried to like it many times but it just won't click for me. He isn't a very good singer and the musical arrangements don't stand out to me
|
| |
well. let's start here:
what do you think of bob dylan? what do you think of tom waits?
|
| |
I love Tom Waits. He's a better singer and lyricist than Nick Cave by miles and I just dig the overall vibe of his music. I don't really care for Dylan though.
|
| |
i think if we're talking strictly vocal chops waits is definitely better and has a more unique style
for me i guess the draw of cave is the post-punk rooting (he was in the birthday party as well after all) and the ridiculousness of some of his lyrics (see: murder ballads)

I understand. I guess it's just not for me. Ironically I really dig his film scores
|
| |
have you tried his later more strictly serious stuff? boatman's call and apparently the newest material
but yea not everything is for everyone no shame in not digging something acclaimed
