“I would hardly call this album innovative, unless this is the first metal album you've heard.”
With all of the many, MANY genre tags that have emerged, since the time when there was only Rock, Pop, Metal, Jazz, Rap, Country, and a few others, making such a statement seems very uninformed or even childish. So what you’re saying is that once you’ve heard the metal bands, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath (just for example), inherently Journal has nothing new to offer you? Absurd. If that is your perspective, then you are not qualified to determine whether something is innovative or not.
Apples and pears are both fruits, but they each taste very different. Not being able to tell the difference would suggest deficient taste buds.

I was hoping i could just put "metal" and be done with it, but nope scrutiny is all i receive in
return. Obviously making a statement like that is a bit of an exaggeration, because i listen to a
lot of metal, in which there are many different genres and i thought id oversimplify the sub genres
and just say metal; hoping that anyone who read my post would realize that.
Haha Led Zeppelin is metal (speaking of qualification)? Ive heard everything the album has had to
offer
before on a collection of metal albums ; executed in a much more satisfactory manor. Black Sabbath
and Led Zeppelin sound completely different than this so i really am unsure of the point your trying
to get across.
Goddamn ignorance FUCK HUMANss.
Ps: Album isn't bad, just isn't as amazing as you guys are hyping it to be. My opinion don't like
it? Va te faire foutre.

I personally don't even listen to Led Zepplin, but yes, people would qualify it as metal from that era. My point was to remind you that metal has become a very broad spectrum. Your post, regarding Journal's lack of innovation, implies that if you've heard one metal band, then you've heard them all. Led Zepplin's original genre tag IS metal, and yet you agree that they sound nothing like Journal.
I suspect that what you mean, based on your recent and past comments, is that Journal are not innovative because of the existence of bands like Dillinger and Protest the Hero. Whether you like Journal, Protest, or Dillinger is a matter of opinion, which I do respect, but these bands absolutely do not sound the same.
Your opinion doesn't bother me. It would just be nice if people understood what they were talking about, prior to entering a particular discussion.

"Led Zeppelin are regularly cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal"
LOL! Ok... I guess I shouldn't have used Zeppelin as an example. I was just trying to provide contrast to the "metal" discussion.

yeah but progenitor doesn't mean they played metal, it just means they influenced the people who began the musical movement of metal.

Yes, that's true. Ok. It seems that I am not being clear enough, so I'll just ask the real question that I had in mind, point blank: What other band does Journal sound like?
If the answer is that they sound like no other band, then Journal's music must be at least somewhat innovative.
If they do, indeed, sound like some other band, provide reasons why. Hopefully your analysis goes deeper than just saying "they play fast, they have crazy time changes, and their vocalist screams."
